Yes, Bone Broth in a Cookie. And It's Incredible.

We know what you're thinking. Bone broth in a dessert? That sounds like a wellness experiment gone too far.

But hear us out.

These cookies are golden, chewy, naturally sweetened with dates, and completely gluten-free. They taste like the kind of treat you'd find at an artisan bakery — rich, satisfying, with a depth of flavor you can't quite explain. That secret depth? It's The Osso bone broth stick. And you won't taste it for a second.

We created this recipe because we believe that nourishing your body shouldn't mean giving up pleasure. Bone broth is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet — so why limit it to a warm cup on a cold morning? Once you try these, you'll wonder why nobody thought of this sooner.

Why Add Bone Broth to Cookies?

Bone broth isn't just for soups and stews. It's a concentrated source of collagen, gelatin, amino acids, and minerals — and when added to baked goods, it does something surprisingly magical.

In baking, the gelatin in bone broth acts similarly to a binding agent, contributing to that soft, chewy texture that makes a great cookie so irresistible. It adds a richness and moisture that you'd normally only get from extra butter or sugar — but without any of that.

From a flavor perspective, a small amount of bone broth in a sweet recipe is completely undetectable. The sweetness of the dates and coconut masks any savory notes entirely. What remains is simply a more complex, more satisfying cookie.

And the best part? You're sneaking in a meaningful dose of collagen with every bite.

The Benefits of Collagen in Your Everyday Diet

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body — it's the building block of your skin, joints, gut lining, hair, and nails. But after our mid-twenties, our body's natural collagen production starts to decline.

That's where food-based collagen comes in. Unlike supplements, the collagen found in bone broth is naturally derived from slow-cooked animal bones, making it highly bioavailable — meaning your body can actually absorb and use it efficiently.

Regular consumption of collagen has been linked to:

Improved skin elasticity and hydration — less dryness, fewer fine lines.

Stronger joints and reduced inflammation — particularly relevant for active people.

Better gut health — the gelatin in bone broth soothes and seals the gut lining.

Stronger hair and nails — a popular reason many people start drinking bone broth daily.

The Osso bone broth sticks are slow-cooked for 18 hours to maximize collagen extraction, then concentrated into a convenient 10ml stick — making them perfect for cooking, baking, and everything in between.

The Recipe: Gluten-Free Bone Broth Cookies

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 12–14 minutes

Makes: ~15 cookies

Dietary: Gluten-free, dairy-optional

Ingredients

1 stick The Osso organic bone broth (10ml)

150g gluten-free rolled oats

80g gram flour (chickpea flour)

6 Medjool dates, pitted

60g butter, melted (or coconut oil for dairy-free)

30g shredded coconut

1 egg

2 tbsp chia seeds

3 tbsp coconut milk

½ tsp baking soda

Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Blend the pitted dates with the coconut milk until you get a smooth, sticky paste. Set aside.

Mix dry ingredients: in a large bowl, combine the gluten-free oats, gram flour, shredded coconut, chia seeds, baking soda, and salt.

Add wet ingredients: pour in the melted butter, egg, date paste, and The Osso bone broth stick. Mix everything together until a thick dough forms.

Shape: roll the dough into small balls (roughly a tablespoon each), place on the prepared tray, and press down gently with your palm or a fork.

Bake for 12–14 minutes until golden at the edges. They will still look slightly soft in the center — that's perfect.

Cool on the tray for 10 minutes before eating. They firm up as they cool.

Tips, Swaps & Variations

Make them dairy-free: swap the butter for the same quantity of melted coconut oil. The cookies will be slightly crispier at the edges — delicious either way.

No gram flour? Almond flour works beautifully as a substitute and adds a naturally sweet, nutty flavor.

Add-ins we love: dark chocolate chips, a pinch of cinnamon, or a handful of chopped walnuts for extra crunch.

Storage: keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 1 month. Reheat for 5 minutes at 160°C for that fresh-baked feeling.

Make them smaller: for bite-sized snacks (great for kids or lunchboxes), reduce baking time to 9–10 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Can you taste the bone broth in these cookies?
Not at all. The natural sweetness of the dates and coconut completely masks any savory notes. The bone broth contributes to the richness and texture of the cookie rather than its flavor. Multiple taste testers had no idea it was in there.
Are these cookies suitable for children?
Yes — these cookies are free from refined sugar, gluten, and artificial additives, making them a wholesome snack for children. If making for babies under 12 months, simply omit the salt.
Can I make these without eggs?
You can substitute the egg with a flax egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water, rested for 5 minutes). The texture will be slightly denser but still delicious.
What is bone broth, exactly?
Bone broth is made by slow-simmering animal bones (chicken, beef, or a mix) in water for many hours — traditionally 12 to 24 hours. This long cooking process extracts collagen, gelatin, and minerals from the bones, resulting in a deeply nourishing liquid. The Osso slow-cooks their broth for 18 hours and concentrates it into a convenient 10ml stick.
Where can I buy The Osso bone broth sticks?
